Rain saves Sebs from certain defeat

Weather gods mercifully came down in torrents to save St Sebastians College, Moratuwa, from certain defeat in the hands of St Anthony's College, Kandy, in their inter-school cricket match which ended in a draw at Katugastota yesterday.

At the time the rains came down the Sebastianites being asked to follow on, 166 runs behind, were 134 for 6, still 32 runs behind with only 4 wickets in hand and almost two sessions of play remaining. The rains came down at 1.10 pm and the match was called off at 4.45 pm.
The Antonians owe their fine performance to the batting of their Vice Captain Manoj Sarathchandra who made a brilliant 128 with 11 fours off 140 balls and was associated in a facing 122 run stand for the eighth wicket with tail ender Romesh Macwin (26) which lifted the total from 102 for 7 to 224 for 8.
The Sebastianites in reply folded up for 71 against the pace of Dinuk Herath (3 for 19) and the leg spin of Saranga Rajaguru (4 for 20) and Buwaneka Wijetunga 3 for 13.

Saranga Rajaguru who is a junior national cricketer has now taken 60 wickets despite missing some matches due to tour of India.
Following on, 166 runs behind, St Sebastian's College were facing defeat 134 for 6 when rains came down.
St Anthony's College 239 all out in 68.1 overs (Yohan Woods 20, Manoj Sarathchandra 128, Kanishka Ranaraja 18, Romesh Machlin 26, Amila Aponso 3 for 78, Isuru Mendis 3 for 46, Sheveen Fernando 2 for 11).

St Sebastian's College 73 all out in 81.3 overs (Amila Aponso 20, Sanitha de Mel 10, Dinuk Herath 3 for 17, Saranga Rajaguru 4 for 20, Buwaneka Wijetunga 3 for 13) and 134 for 6 in 40 overs (Luke Jayadeva 28, Avishka Fernando 14, Sanitha de Mel 26, Amila Aponso 35 n.o., Sachin Bulathsinghala 3 for 41, Buwaneka Wijetunga 2 for 19).
