News Events Obituary - Tom (Tuttu) Tenuwera passed away, in New Zealand.
Tom (Tuttu) Tenuwera passed away on Sunday the 5th Feb, in New Zealand. Tuttu kept wickets for St.Anthony's in the early 60s and also represented College in Rugby. He died of a massive heart attack. Hereunder are two tributes to an old friend.
From: BERNARD VANCUYLENBURG <bernvan@yahoo.com.au> Dear Chris As mentioned in our telephone conversation a short while ago, Tutu sent me a synopsis of his life after he left Sri Lanka. The reference to College which he dearly loved is at the end. This is what he wrote - quote - "I am now 66 years and I have really enjoyed my life. I have seen wonderful countries and visited many places. I have good friends, enjoyed good food and fast cars. But I still cherish the river and the sprawling hillside , the edifice, the 'Rainbow Cottage' the 'Nest' (now defunct) the 'Mansion' and the 'Villa'. I remember the boarding, the Mass each morning, the college bell tolling the Angelus twice a day, the matrons and the warden. Oh what a school ! The school which we loved. Anthonians rule !!!" Chris, reading his words now brings an ache to the heart because he expresses our sentiments for the great College we love. What brings a tear to the eye is the thought that gentle jovial Tutu has now left us. Precious memories, how they linger.......
Bernard.

Message from Chris Duff-Tytler: He recalled his first day at Boarding School - Rainbow Cottages, and asked me where was his class. I took him holding his hand and showed him his class and he never forgot that kind gesture. He gave me a cap from his NZ business, and always begged me to visit him to show his his creation. As I have been to NZ twice before I was planning to visit after my retirement this year on 18th May 2012, it was not meant to be. Yes, I had a positive friendship with him and appreciated his good nature, in acknowledging the simple thinbgs in life, that meant so much to him. Yes his wife Nicole will surely miss him. Regards Chris Duff-Tytler
